Welcome to Week 6!
Good afternoon parents,
I hope that the long weekend had come at just the right for you and your
family and gave everyone a timely break. Here we are over halfway through
the first term of Year 4 facing the end of Week 6!
Eucharist Parent Child Evening
Thank you to the parents and
their children who devoted their time last Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming
First Eucharist ceremony later this month. The session provided valuable
information and a gentle glimpse into the sacrament, allowing parents to
witness some of the church teachings their child learns at school. Kindly note
that the commitment mass is scheduled for March 18th.
Laptops
We would like to express our
appreciation to the parents who took the time to read our blog from last
fortnight and went the extra mile in reviewing family use and expectations for
laptops in their homes. We're happy to see that the students are getting
comfortable using laptops as an awesome learning tool in school. Some students
have even added cursor apps and features, which is fantastic! However, we
kindly remind them that they need to know how to change them back to normal as
we'll be asking them to return laptops to their standard look and size at
school to keep distractions to a minimum and help them stay focused on their
learning tasks. Thanks again for your support!
Parent Teacher Meeting
Parent interviews will commence in Week 8 (Wednesday 22nd March) for those of you that would
like to come in and have a chat. Each block is 15 minutes, however, interviews
are approximately 10-12 minutes long. This allows us a couple of minutes to get
ready for the next interview. Please contact either us via email if you would
like a longer meeting to discuss any complex issues.
Our booking calendar can be accessed from the link below:
P&F Carwash - Please see the flyers located around the
school and shared through the socials and the newsletter about this great
initiative.
Seesaw
We're still hard at work here,
and I'm excited to let you know that we'll be sharing some more of your child's
progress with you via Seesaw in the coming weeks. You may have already seen an
excellent example of your child's writing skills, including our current work on
creating a narrative with an exciting opening paragraph called a sizzling
starter.
Next week, we'll be sharing an
example of your child's current oral reading skills and comprehension of a text
they've read, followed by a sample of our maths learning later this term.
Your child loves to see your
input when they use the Seesaw app, so please feel free to give their work a
like or a comment. And if you have any questions about these formal learning
samples or anything else related to your child's current learning or
achievement levels, don't hesitate to send us an email.
Thanks for your continued
support, and here's to a great term of learning ahead!
Character Strength of the Week -
This week we are looking at a super important one! It is the character
strength of Fairness.
It is one that is at play in many areas of life and often one of the
hardest to maintain...especially with those that challenge us most!
St John Baptist De La Salle was known for his contributions to
education reform and to equality in education for all in France.
He strongly advocated for the “the last, the least and the
lost”. Some great questions to bring to the family dinner table are:
- Do you treat everybody the
same?
- Do you not let your feelings
bias your decisions?
Homework - Week 6
Just a quick reminder about the process of completing our homework in
Year 4.
If you can, please make sure that your child is reading each night,
preferably out loud for at least ten minutes and that your child is choosing a
question to answer, writes this answer in the given space and then has you sign
it.
This gets them thinking about
what they have just read and is super important in helping them connect to
their reading and make sense of what they have read, giving it purpose. The
mental maths number sentences are meant to be a simple review of basic
facts.
This needs to be brought in each fortnight and are next due Friday 24th March to be
collected, sighted and returned ready to complete on Monday.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Wishing you all a great
week!
