Welcome To Term 2

KAYA,

Welcome back to Term 2, we hope you had a wonderful holiday break and happy Easter, full of family time. We are excited to get stuck into Term 2 and to continue to watch and support the students to learn and develop as young individuals.  We will have a busy term with lots of sporting events and will have lots of exciting new projects and learning ahead too, including; information report writing, measurement, fractions exploration and a technology project.

We welcome our new teacher Mrs Megan Zanetti joining the team of Year 4 staff. Mrs Zanetti will be the Mon-Wed teacher in what will now be known as Year 4Z!

We wish you a peaceful Anzac Day on Tuesday, however you may spend the day remembering those who were impacted and lost. Lest We Forget.

OLC Character Strength of the Week

St. Theresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa) was known for devoting her life to caring for the sick and the poor in Calcutta, India. Even though she is considered one of the greatest humanitarians and was awarded a Noble Peace Prize, she still valued humility and said, “if you are humble nothing will touch you, either praise neither disgrace, because you know what you are.”

Do you let your accomplishments speak for themselves?
Do you know deep down what you do well?

OLC Friendology Focus this Month

When it comes to friendship, empathy is essential in building and maintaining a healthy connection.

It's time us to take a stroll in someone else's shoes and discover that friendship is... Empathy!

Homework in Term 2

Homework will continue in Term 2 beginning in the second week of term. The Year 4's will be pleased to know that there will be no homework allocated in weeks 1 and 10.
Homework will be due on the odd weeks of term, as follows:
  • Friday 12th May (week 3)
  • Friday 26th May (week 5)
  • Friday 9th June (week 7)
  • Friday 23rd June (week 9)
Fortnightly homework for Year 4 includes:
  • Maths columns (2 columns per week/4 columns for the fortnight. Rather than sums this term, we have included a range of topics including other strands of the Year 4 maths content).
  • Reading (20 minutes per day - to be logged in the student diary in the designated side section, preferably 10 minutes oral/reading aloud to someone).
  • Spelling - Practise writing or typing your weekly words - all of these are accessible in your child's one-note. This can be done on a scrap of paper, a notebook or in an electronic word document.  This spelling part does not need to be sent to school.  All of the spelling units for the term have been uploaded to your child's one-note.
We hope that you continue to develop home learning strategies and times that suit your family and complete the tasks when they suit you best.  However, we do ask that you endeavour to listen to your child read aloud to you most nights for about 10 minutes as this gives them opportunities to develop their comprehension and summarising skills as well as time to work on their vocabulary and grammatical understandings. Reading to oneself is also just as important and allows the students to consolidate reading for enjoyment and comprehension. We ask that this term you ensure your child completes the reading responses each night after their reading and encourage you to check that different questions are chosen each day before signing them.

Year 4 Upcoming Assembly
As you may have noticed on the OLC calendar, our assembly for the year will be in week 4, coinciding with National Walk to School week.  Pencil in the afternoon of the 19th of May if you would like to be able to watch our performance.

Yoga
We are lucky to be taking part in some yoga lessons and breathwork with Heather Starr in weeks 3 and 4. The lessons are scheduled for Thursdays and therefore the students will already be in their sports uniform on these days.
