Week 8, Term 4

Good morning parents,

Here we are well into Week 8 - only several more days together as a Year 4 team. What a fantastic year we have had with the special members of 4Z for 2023.  They are an inclusive and hard-working group of children and should all feel very proud of their growth and personal achievements throughout the year. One of the highlights for us was having the 4Z grandparents in for a visit this term and seeing the pride in our students' faces as they shared their classroom with them.



Over the next few school days, we will be contacting some parents via email to inform them about their child's current achievements and academic needs leading into 2024. If you are not contacted but would still like to meet before the end of the year, please feel free to catch one of us either quickly before or after school or reach out via email if you would like to discuss any questions or anything on your mind at all.  

Class Lists 2024 

In the newsletter last week, you would have seen that Mr Benjamin Danaher and Mr Sean McSevich/Mrs Tenielle Lamotte will be working with these students next year. Class lists are being determined this week, being confirmed with administration next week and will be distributed to families in Week 10.

Christmas Concert

Thank you all for your wonderful organisation of costumes and having the children on time and full of enthusiasm for the night. The behaviour of the students was outstanding and it was wonderful seeing some of the Year 4's featuring in the whole school 'Straw and Order' play. What a beautiful way to start off our festive season, as Advent begins!

Working Hard 

Other than our Christmas concert preparations that were underway earlier in the week, please note that we are still in the midst of our teaching and learning program... We are working very hard and we are not on holidays yet!

Grading for student reports is still being finalised and reports will be made available via SEQTA at the end of Week 9.  Please see the office if you do not have this already set up on your devices. 

Our class reward system of BANQER money will be getting spent on Friday for a few individual awards approved by our leadership team to 'cash in' in the final week of school. This includes the request for a class party on the Wednesday of week 9 (6th Dec). We invite the students to each bring a plate of finger food to share for lunch on this day. Please pack recess and crunch and sip as per usual. Any students who would prefer not to participate in the shared food can of course still bring in their own lunch box.

St Vinnies Christmas Hamper Appeal 

A huge thank you to those families that have been able to make a contribution so far. If you are able to make a small donation, these hampers go a long way! 

Homework 

Please note that this is the last week for homework - students are welcome to complete it and bring it to school early ready to mark together part of the Maths section on Friday.  Week 9 is homework free!!! 

Uthando Dolls

Thank you so much for the helpers who have come in over the last month or so to assist the doll making.  It has been a wonderful project that wouldn't have been possible at all without the wonderful helpers that have come in over the term!  They will be delivered to the lovely ladies in Perth and shipped off later in the year.

We are now attempting a small sewing project to create a home made Christmas decoration ready to hang on our trees next week.

Learning Intentions for the Final Fortnight
Maths - will be reviewing measurement areas of need: telling time on analogue clock, calculating elapsed time, symmetry and area.
English - Bush ballads and poetry

Spelling/Grammar - homophones and morphology study


Cape Care Elderly Pen Pals

Over the year we have communicated with some pen pals in the Dunsborough and Busselton Cape Care.  We have made cards and letters for them and we will begin creating some Christmas cards to send to our elderly pen pals. The children have loved hearing from some of their pen pals throughout the year and it has been a great way to be involved in the wider community.

 

Important Dates for Term 4 2023   

  • Wednesday 6th December - Class shared lunch (bring a plate of finger food).
  • Friday 8th December - OLC Colour Run and Last day of School. (Please wear clothes (white) you don’t mind getting ruined and don't forget to bring a towel for the car ride home).

Welcome to Week 4! How fast did those first three weeks go?! The year fours have started the term strong with some impressive growth in their yearly PAT assessments. We are so proud of them all! Uthando Dolls Thank you to the parents, grandparents and relatives who have found time to come in and help out to create these dolls. Helpers are encouraged for the continuing next couple of Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 3.  If you have a sewing machine and able to bring it in to reinforce our stitching or just have some helpful needle skills and have an hour to spare you will be warmly welcomed!   Hat Off to Teachers: Thank you for the words of appreciation, little gifts and fun hats to celebrate World Teacher's Day. Christmas Concert 2023 The Christmas Concert this year is on Wednesday November 29 in Week 8.  There are basic costumes required for each year group. The Year 4 cohort are asked to dress as traditional town people. Town people: Old pillowcase; cut outs for head and arms and rope or scrap of material for waist and old tea towel for head with rope or scrap of material to keep on head. Welcome to Term 4!

Dear 4Z Parents, Here we are beginning our final   term of Year Four! Spring holidays were an absolute joy for our families and we hope you also enjoyed some time with your children soaking up the divine sunshine. We are very much looking forward to our final term together and continuing to grow in our knowledge of ourselves, each other and the world around us. This Friday is our Year 4 Feeder day visit to St Mary Mackillop College to have a taste of high school life and some of the different subjects.  Most permission slips are back and ready to go but if not, please send to school ASAP.   Now for a little snippet from the end of Term 3 as we celebrated Book Week dress up day together.
